Seeing I'm such a cheapo when it comes to building guns, what are you guys (sorry, you gals too) seeing as far as prices for new barrels in your neck of the woods?

The reason I'm asking is that Log Cabin has some octogon-to-round Colrains for $175.00. Is that a good price copaired to others?

Yeah, EVERYTHING is high. Sure miss the 70's.[the time, not the show :haha:] TVM has Octagon to Round milled from hydrolic tubing for @ a $100. Haven't used one yet, but when healed, it's next. :v

All of the high quality stuff is in the same ball park price wise. $175 is a good price for a colerain barrel I would think.

Well guys, gasoline & groceries are keep going up also. I guess some folks can't live in the 70's forever.

Go cheap somewhere else. Don't go cheap on the barrel, your gun is only as good as it is. Buy the Rice or Getz. If a straight sided barrel, there are many to choose from that are good.
MLBS has Colrain's on sale at around $155.oo

I agree with Wick. Finances force me to be as cheap as possible, wherever it's practical, but going cheap on the barrel's a savings you will regret. If you buy new, though -- unless there's some recently-introduced econo-barrel out there of which I'm not aware -- about the cheapest you can go are the Green Mountain straight barrels, and there's not a thing wrong with them other than the fact they're not swamped.

I'll try to explain the phrase 'cheapo'....I'm stuck on a small budget (for now), so if I see barrel at over $200.00 and some under $200.00 made by reputable makers, then I woulds of course venture to purchase the best value for the dollar.

I know what L.C. charges for his stuff, I know what GM charges for theirs, Ed Rayl and Getz as well, but I just wanted to get a flavor of what else is on the market.

You get what you pay for. I use a lot of Ed Rayle's barrels and haven't had a bad one yet. Rice barrels are pricey, but there's not the finish work needed as on other barrels.

The Rice BBL gets my vote
Comes with a "fitted " breech plug
The outside finish is virtually ready to go
They definetly shoot.
Mabey $35 more
Sounds cheap to me.

IMHO
