Primers for loading blackpowder shotshells

I have a damascus steel Belgian double from around 1899, seems mechanically sound and the bores are good. I plan on rolling some blackpowder shotshells with Goex. I don't have regular 209 primers, and really don't want to pay near $50 shipping just to have a couple hundred primers sent to me, but I have a full box of Winchester 777 209 primers for my inline 50 cal and they are available locally if I go past the near box of 100 I have (regular 209s are out of stock here). I understand the MZ primers are cooler to eliminate fouling and not send a projectile down a rifled barrel before combustion of powder is complete. Would the MZ 209 primers I have be sufficient to touch off FFFg powder in a 12 gauge shotshell reliably?

Yes, BP will ignite easily. Those primers you have although less powerful than standard primers are made to ignite BP substitutes that are far harder to ignite than real gunpowder.

You'll be fine. I shoot brass shells in my shotguns and they use pistol primes.

Just be sure those primers fit the hulls correctly. If undersized, they can literally fall out of the shotgun shell - dumping powder. There are differences in the "primer holes" in various-aged/brands of shotshells. Have fun!
