I'm looking to purchase Pedersoli 3 band Enfield rifle soon and I want to make authentic cartridges for it. The British used a smooth sided minie bullet called the Pritchett ball which was undersized as to allow it to slide easily down the bore when wrapped in the remainder of the cartridge paper. Does anyone know how underside a Pritchett ball for a .577 caliber enfield is?

If your computer has Adobe so you can read PDF files, click on the attached link.

It has more information than a mortal man should ever want to know about the paper Enfield .577 cartridge.

As a quick comment, the bullets were paper patched.
The wrapping or patch went down the bore with the slug.
The bullets were .568 in diameter before patching.

Have fun.

I'm not sure if you already know, but there is a gentleman that goes under the name Britishmuzzleloaders on YouTube that has a whole serie of video specifically concerning the Pritchett ball cartridge. Seriously, he show you the specs, making them based on the original instructions and making reusable cartridge cases. Sorry I am skill enough to give you a link.
