Hey all - I just bought a rifle from TOTW, and got it yesterday. Test fired it today with a pan of powder and when I went to pull the cock back, I noticed that the flint was actually touching the pan. I thought, "That's strange", then I noticed that the cock had cracked right at the "S" curve. This is a L&R Queen Anne lock. Has anyone else had this kind of problem with them, or did I just get an odd one?

One other thought - this flintlock has a "acid etched patina" on the lock and barrel. Could this have weakened it? And if so, wouldn't it have also weakened the barrel? I'm a little nervous to shoot it now...

Thanks in advance,
Colin

Call L&R. I am sure they will stand by their lock, and either make the repair, or at least send you a new cock.

I would not worry about the barrel. There is a lot more steel in the barrel than in the lock. If you are worried about the gun, send it back to the seller and get your money back.

I agree with Paul dont worry about the rifle as a whole just the lock. Contact L&R tell them the problem and see what they want (whole lock or just the cock) It sounds to me there mihgt have been voids in the cock and it gave up the ghost. Better to find out now than on a 8 point buck.

I agree with everyone. Let us know how things work out with L&R.

Your cock broke, don't worry their cheap and easy to replace. I went to TOTW a couple weeks ago to buy the 1.5" to replace the standard Siler. When asked what I needed, "I need a longer cock", came out of my mouth. A lady happened to be in the store. Should have seen the look I got. I am still embarrased. :)

Well, I called both Track and L&R this morning. Both were more than helpful, and the end result is that L&R is sending a new hammer. Everyone was very helpful. Thanks!

Don't feel lonely. I was playing with an old SxS ml'ing shotgun that needed some over size nipples to replace the battered old ones. At the local gun show a very attractive woman was manning her husbands ml'er supply both. A friend was with me who is not a Ml'er shooter and when I asked her if she had some odd sized nipples, I knew right then what I said. She was very professional, which helped me allot and with a straight face, said she didn't while my buddy is rolling on the floor. :(

I ended up getting the Kentucky Fowler with the 44" Colerain barrel. Kind of an early birthday/ late Christmas present from my wife.
