My Pietta '62 "Belly Gun"
dscn2997av5.jpg

has developed a hitch.

When I thumb the hammer back it (the hammer) will catch/jam at about 1/4 cocked to the point that thumb pressure will not move it. However, if I ease the hammer back downward then proceed to cock it again it will cycle.

I have stripped the pistol down to parts and have found no broken or sever/obvious wear, but I am new to the maintenance of these weapons and still have a lot to learn.

This problem is intermitent and does not happen to the same chamber

(Yes that is my checkbook it is sitting on. I always giggle to myself how small and concealable it is)

thanks in advance

It is probably the cylinder stop that is causing the problem. Replace it and more than likely functioning will be restored.

Cant figure out how to edit my post, but to correct an erro, I believe it is an 1861navy and also, neither The Possible Shop or VCI list a cylinder stop for the 1861 navy. But as I said, I'm still new at this and have a bunch to learn

The 1860 Army/1861 Navy are listed together at VTI. What you want is #12 on this list, the bolt: VTI

I believe your problem has been answered in the above posts. Also check out Dixie Gun Works for the part. I didn't know Pietta made a belly gun and I purchased a '51 Navy kit and made my version of the hide away gun. To see more pictures of it in transition, check out the "Gunbuilders" section under '51 Navy Bird head grip. Didn't mean to highjack your thread; they are a neat gun!

Here's a photo of an original "62" Police that was modified by a "frontier" gunsmith for a client. It shows that your concept was certainly desired back in the day.
