One of my favorite songs!

http://sniff.numachi.com/~rickheit/dtrad/pages/tiMINSTBOY;ttMINSTBOY.html

The minstrel boy to the war is gone,
In the ranks of death you'll find him;
His father's sword he hath girded on,
And his wild harp slung behind him;

"Land of Song!" cried the warrior bard,
(Should) "Tho' all the world betrays thee,
One sword, at least, thy rights shall guard,
One faithful harp shall praise thee!"

The Minstrel fell! But the foeman's steel
Could not bring that proud soul under;
The harp he lov'd ne'er spoke again,
For he tore its chords asunder;

And said "No chains shall sully thee,
Thou soul of love and brav'ry!
Thy songs were made for the pure and free
They shall never sound in slavery!

Cheers!

You are more than welcome, Sir! :hatsoff: Happy to be of some service to you. Sing it with feeling!

I fell in love with the music when it was used in "The Man Who Would Be King", though they used a different set of words for it. My Dad then taught me these words, since he remembered them from learning them in school as a kid! It's up there with "Men of Harlech" as a seriously cool song.

Cheers!

Oh yeah, Minstrel Boy--yep, I still sing that one quite a bit. Play it on fife, too. Can't beat the great old songs.

Here's a great link for period tunes I discovered a few years ago, The contemplator the tunes are in Midi format so are not violating copyrights. I like this for the lyrics and melody samples.
The Minstral boy, as well as other like tunes are in here.

Also, I almost forgot this source, there's some mp3 and wav files from here, but I don't believe the minstrel boy is represented in its entirety. Cantaria
