Gentleman,

Are the stocks of a flint and a percussion model the same?

The reason I ask is, if I have a standard flintlock version, can I remove the lock and barrel and replace with a percussion lock and barrel? I'm thinking of an "all purpose rifle".

Thanks,

Yes I do believe they will interchange. I have a Hawken that I have both flit and percussion locks and barrels for an I also have a Renegade and the locks from the Hawken will fit the Renegade stock as well. Just be sure that the barrel you buy will match up with your stock. I think the Renegade barrels were 1"across the flats.

Good luck,
Scott.

Since all Renegades use 1" barrels, the barrels should "drop-in" interchangeably.

And except for the TC Sneca, Cherokee, & Patriot pistol which used a smaller size lock assembly, the locks on TC's other side-locks are interchangeable as far as the external dimensions go.

But depending on the age of your Renegade and the particular inletting operatrion in use at the time it was made, you may need 30 minmutes of tinkering around inside the lock mortise to remove a matchhead size piece of wood here and there to let a flint or cap type lock drop in compared to the other, but once dropped in they'll work fine.

Reason is that at some point TC changed from two uniquely different lock mortise inletting operations (one cap, one flint) to a single generic motrise inletting operation which lets either lock drop right in and your's may be one of those.

You can probably use your existing barrel, too, by using a drum and nipple arrangement in place of the flash hole liner. That's the way a lot of the older original ones were converted. Of course, if you switch back and forth very often you run the risk of messing up the threads. Just something to be aware of.

Locks are interchangeable on T/C's full size rifles, and the barrels on the Renegade are 1" across the flats.

Good luck!
