Hey Gents;

I'm in the process of making myself a shooting pouch, and I'm humming and hawing about including a welt in the two main seams.

I've not used them in the past, thinking they were just more work for little or no gain. But I don't really know nuthin about them nor the reason(s) they are used.

Can any of you guys who include them on their bags tell me why you do and what their purpose is?

Thanks.

I didn't used to use them, thought it was additional nonsense.

As Swampy said, they help protect the threads when the leather is turned. I think it helps 'finish' the item as well, especially it it's a nice scalloped welt :thumbsup: . Now I always use them. It's not that much extra work.

Thanks a lot Gentlemen, guess I'll go for it. Now, plain or pinked or scalloped? :hmm:

Like said, it's a gainer, I'd go fer just a plain strip. Make it a little wider than you want so it's easy to handle.
I put the extra width to the outside as yer stitching, then cut it shorter after I flip the bag
