I've thought of doing something similar. I don't know how well the slow rifle twist would work in a short pistol.

A ‘blanket’ gun is known from Pontiac’s rebellion. In the west ‘buffalo runners’ were made, although only a few examples are known.
By the 1970s we had invented the canoe gun, or pack gun. A short gun with stock and barrel cut off
In function there is no reason you can cut off oat the comb and just infront of the barrel key

Yep, I am sure someone on this forum would like the chance of fixing up an old TC.

I have a chance to do just that. A friend gave me an old .54 TC Hawken with an extra Green Mtn. 66 twist barrel with the instructions to do what ever I want with it. All it's missing is the lock and L&R makes one to fit for $160.

Yep,
There are more than a few of you on this forum that have their stuff together and can turn that puppy into a solid shooter in no time!

I'm going to take a wild guess that you live in Sussex County, NJ. When you purchased that rifle it was purchased as a rifle and was noted as such from the dealer if indeed you purchased it from a dealer. If you convert it into a pistol then you will have to register it as a pistol with the police department. You could also do nothing and hope that you don't draw attention to yourself by doing something stupid that will cause the police to come knocking on your door. If that happens then I would make friends with your cell mate very quickly :ghostly:
