I have 2, (one for each hand) Lyman 50 cal percussion pistols. Great guns, a pleasure to shoot. I wanted a Flintlock Pistol to go with my GPR 50cal in Flint. 1st question is why doesn't Lyman make a flint 50 cal pistol as well. 2 I picked up a Traditions 50cal Flint. Good gun and a fun shooter.....BUT, the trigger is loose. This is the only downside I have had with this pistol.
SO, Can I make a Frankenstein, using the body of a Lyman, with the barrel of the Tradition and the Lock of the Tradition with the tight trigger of a Lyman.
Does anybody have any experience(I know this is a loaded question)in these matters.

Thanks

Just a thought, why not just look at replacing the locks on the Lymans?
What is the Traditions? Trappers? Got two caplock Trappers--one from a kit and the other factory made. Both has play in the triggers after they are set.

It is a Tradition "Kentucky".
I could see about swapping one of the Lymans.
So the percussion barrel to a Flint barrel and the percussion lock would need the swap to the flint lock. The trick is just locating the parts and the fit.

The Traditions Pistol is a low end gun. They shoot Ok but you can not expect them to be perfect. The Lyman may be converted to flint by using an RPL Flint lock and a fitted flint barrel. The problem is you are going to have a $700.00 Lyman flint pistol. Not a good deal.
You would be better off getting a TVM kit or a completed fint lock pistol.

I have a Traditions 50cal flintlock Kentucky and it came with a 12 or 15 lb trigger pull. I took it apart and looked at the inside and discovered that it has a screw for adjusting the sear depth. I lightened the trigger a LOT and now the trigger is real loose with a lot of play.

It doesn't bother me... but if you want to fix it just add a little coil spring to the trigger plate on the inside to hold the trigger forward. This is what Pedersoli uses(might be a leaf spring[CRS]) to keep the trigger play out of there Howdah pistols.
