Has anyone here ever heard of a flintlock /rifle/barrel builder named Dave R. Taylor of Little Hocking, Ohio in Washington County. Born 1887? If so are his rifles good? bad? anything? Appreciate any input. Thanks

I am not personally aquainted with his work, but I know he was respected as a builder of ML rifles. His "trademark" was a german silver under rib. He made barrels for the trade, was active in the '60s and '70s and advertized in Muzzle Blasts.

I didn't find anything in the complete copy of "American Gun Maker".

Here is a copy of all of the Taylors it lists:

"T. A. T. ”” Marking on a barrel of a two-shot, single barrel, percus-
sion, Kentucky type rifle.

TAYLOR, Alexander”” Fulton Co., Penna., 1826. (Fulton Co., was a
part of Bedford County prior to 1850).

TAYLOR, Argulus”” Ira, N. Y.

TAYLOR, A. J. & CO.”” 209 Clay St., San Francisco, Calif., 1856-58.

TAYLOR, C. ”” Unlocated. Halfstock percussion rifle.

TAYLOR, F. C”” St. Louis, Mo. "Taylor Fur Getter," .22 cal. trap
pistol patented June 9, 1914.

TAYLOR, George”” Easton, Pa., before 1783. Barrel maker, lock tester,
etc., under Richard Backhouse at the Durham Iron Works.

TAYLOR, Henry”” First gunsmith, Jackson Tp. (Co.?), Ohio, 1817.

TAYLOR, Jno. ”” Pennsylvania musket maker to Committee of Safety.
Was one of the petitioners representing the gun-making trade,
complaining to the Committee of Safety in November, 1776,
against the high and rising cost of materials and labor entering
into arms making, and quoting advances in prices within one
year, since 1775.

TAYLOR, J. N. ”” Unlocated gunbarrel maker. Stamped on muzzle
of heavy percussion match rifle.

TAYLOR, L. B. & CO.”” Chicopee, Mass. Makers of a rim-fire car-
tridge, single-shot, sliding barrel, pocket pistol.

TAYLOR, N. B”” Vienna, Trumbull Co., Ohio, 1840.

TEAFF, Joseph”” Steubenville, Jefferson Co., Ohio, 1820's. "

I have a percussion target rifle by Dave R. Taylor of Little Hocking, Ohio. Nice wood, german silver furniture, false muzzle, .50 with a 1-48 twist, Lyman rear sight, hooked butt plate, looks nearly new. At the time I bought it there was also a lighter flint rifle by him, probably best described as ohio style also for sale. I'd like to have bought it also.

Thinking it is made in the last century by what is call a modern maker. Modern maker, BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Some one who was like all of us who liked the old way. Branch Meanly, Bill Large, Ken Bresien. What counts is how it shoots!

I saw Ken Bresien break Horace Warner's record with the same gun Horace shot. This in the 1990's The only gun and shooter to do it was with Horace's own barrel!!!!!!!! What does that say??
