Went to the range with my .40 cal flintlock and my new Garmin Chrono this morning. I began at 50 yards with a .395 RB and a .10 patch over 65 gr of Swiss 3f. Loud crack for a little rifle. Almost zero recoil. 6 shots averaged 2415 FPS. Quicker than I thought it would be. Spread was 18 fps SD was 12. Took it over to the 100 yd range expecting a 6 inch or more drop and was pleasantly surprised with maybe an inch drop and that could have been me. Really liking this .40.

Hmmmm, now I too have the same chrono and put your data into my ballistics calculator and I get a drop of almost 2-1/4".

Something is off ...
but still pretty flat shootin'!

I'm pretty sure the inch or so difference in my guestimation and your chart, may somehow be related to my 73 year old right, sighting eye that is just recovering from some surgery. 2" drop at 100 is fine for me. The energy, as it goes down range, sure does fall off quickly! Which BC are you using? I like that chart.

I also have a Kibler .40 SMR. I was using 40 gr vintage Goex until I ran out and then switched to Swiss. I have to plug the vent hole with Swiss to prevent filling the priming pan or spilling powder when ramming the .390 ball with .018 patch. Hits dead on at 25 yards, 2” high at 50 yards.

I bump the load to 80 gr for shots over 50 yards. Shoots 2” low at 100 yards and 22” low at 200 yards.

This is my .40 built by a Gent named Joe Schell. 42 inch Rice barrel, curley maple, stained with Aqua Fortis. Mr. Schell forged all of the furniture and put on a swivel patch box. Slim, light and a fine shooter. The peep sight is one from one of our members, Tom A Hawk who sells them on this site. I'm experimenting with different positions but believe I'll end up removing the rear sight and putting a taller, thicker front sight on.
