Bought one L&R lock, Manton for a project and it had to be completely rebuilt and hardened before it was deemed a good reliable lock.

Further supporting my statement, once they (L&R) get a second look at them, their locks are pretty good.

I am interested in everyone's opinion on R.E. Davis locks.
Wow, a pretty old thread...don't have an opinion as I have no experience with a Davis lock.

I guess one of the good things about forums like these is that my similar questions back in 2008 showed an overwhelming favor towards Jim Chambers locks, so as I got a few long guns, I always went with Chambers locks. And the good news is that the Chambers locks have all been outstanding for me.

Conversely, using the same forum membership based experiences posted about L&R locks, there's no basis for which I'd ever consider buying one.

And no need to given the old saying: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
Chambers locks are it for me...others mileage may vary of course.

I have 2 Davis locks and am more than happy with them. I'm also very happy with the sevice I get from Tim at R.E. Davis. They stand behind their product and service it. Much better service than TOW. FRJ
