Woe is me...on vacation to hunt the ML week...yesterday was fine, and this morning I carried rain gear to deal with the "light rain" we were supposed to get mid morning.

Sure thing, about 9:00am it started raining and by 10:30 it was very heavy...the good news is the "muzzle down, up under the coat" approach worked fine...checking the 4F back at the truck it was still dry and slid freely back & forth in the pan.

The bad news, hours later, it's STILL raining and is forecast through the night and tomorrow... :(

Are you gunna give it a go, or will you be working on the honey-do list tomorrow? Is your season only a week long? What type tags do you have to use for this season?
Good luck with the hunt and the weather.

I get 4 Buck & 2 Doe tags in the section of NC I hunt, from Nov 4th through Jan 1st, for all types of weapons...not aligned with a particular type of season like Bow, ML or regular gun.

And I always take these two weeks vacation in November to hunt the rut every day...lost a half day today, and looks like all day tomorrow...it's one thing to try and tough it out with a ML in light rain, but heavy rain is just not very enjoyable hunting at all.

Ahhhhhhhh: UPDATE:
Weather is now saying it'll mostly clear out of the area through the night and only have spotty showers through the morning tomorrow...looks like it's Flintlocks again !!

My hunting lease partners know what you're talking about. We were there for opening weekend. Weather cold for E. Tx. but dry. I had to leave Sum. to be back at work yesterday. I drove through severe storms on the way back home. Then more storms moved through that night going east.

Talked to my partners on the lease the next morning and the comment was made that they saw my stand go floating by about midnight.

It has been raiing here for about a week now and the forcast is for at least another week of it. Makes for some poor flintlock hunting weather for sure. Good luck with the rest of your season.

Here in Indiana we get One Buck that's it! You take a Buck during early Archery ... your done for the season all you can take is Does. Lucky Man. Good Luck I hope you fill your tags.

I got a yearling on opening day of ML season for central NC. Hoping to try'em again this weekend.
Hope the rain lets up. While the forecast is favorable, its still coming down. Good luck. Keep your powder dry

Got a little wet today myself, Roundball. But kept my powder dry!! Won't be able to hunt again until I come back from this weekends rendezvous. Good luck to ya'!

So much for weather forecasting...got up at 4:30, looked outside and it's still pouring !! :(

What kind of 4F you using? I have used regular Goex 4F under condtions like you describe and I have the pan powder turning into a 4F cookie in less than an hour. I have often switched to 3F under these donditions just to prevent this from happening. What is the secret?

Goex 4F...I keep the lock area tucked up under my coat close to the warmth of my body...keep it sealed off from the elements with the coat held against it, etc...seems to stay warm & dry

Its 9:10 am on this side of NC and finally starting to brighten up.
I was in the woods at 6:30am and it had just stopped raining...dripped all morning but no actual rain...saw that 10 pointer again so he's alive & well...couldn't get a shot...maybe in the next few days

Going to be hard staying cool in the next couple of days. Be safe tomorrow.
Yeah, I just laid out some warm weather stuff for the next couple days.

I've been watching a place for a couple weeks now down in a bottom where a heavily used trail crosses a huge, wide drainage ditch...you could drop a car in this drainage ditch it's so wide, no joke.

I'm hunting it the next couple days and will take a picture of a cedar tree before I leave tomorrow...a really big buck has been working on it for a couple weeks now...it's a 4" cedar tree, and every bit of the bark is "gored" off of it, all the way around, from a few inches off the ground to a good 3-3.5 feet high...never saw a tree so torn up...wasn't made by any wimpy 2 year old with a basket rack...this one has some big burly horns to be tearing this up so bad...a pile of bark on the ground at the base of the tree...he worked it again within the past 24hrs so the photo should be a good one...he probably visits it during the night but the rut is here so he's going to start traveling some during the day too...hopefully it'll be the next couple days

At 28 degrees F. openin' day was too cold for this child. It has rained the last two days hard enough to work on honey do's. That's three days out of five I didn't get any nap time in my tree lounge. I'm worried I might have to take a nap on the couch. :shake:

I'd rather have it cold than hot, but know what you mean about the rain...never minded hunting in light rain when I only used centerfires...but given a choice now, I'd rather not hunt in the rain with a flintlock.

One of the big pluses to the underhammer is rain does not effect it too much for obvious reasons. :)

I suppose if I wore my Carhart snow suit I'd be warm enough, but my rain gear don't fit over it. 28 degrees is not conducive to nappin' in the tree lounge. :(
Today it reached 71, and 77 is predicted for tomorrow. Hope springs eternal. :winking:
