The 1770 Early Lancaster kit has a 3/8" RR. I also have a 13/32" (actual 3/8") RR drill bit.
Is there any need to run the RR drill through. As it stands now I get resistance and I did not know if the RR hole needs to be drilled more or the RR itself should be sanded down a little. If I was to drill it seems to me that I would need to mount the barrel to make it straight and fix me up some blocks of wood to hold it in place.
The strange thing about it is, the 13/32" (3/8") bit will not fit in the RR channel hole. It is almost as if I am suppossed to give it a ream once.

Rootnuke, last rifle I built also used a TOW stock with 3/8" ramrod hole. After I pinned the tips on the ramrod and sanded the ramrod down flush with the tips it went in ok; just a little snug; which is how I personally like it as it helps to keep the ramrod from falling out. How are you progressing on your rifle? Is she about ready to shoot?

Personally, I ream all of the RR holes out. I want them loose as I am gonna swab some Tru-Oil up in that hole anyway & try to seal it some (best I can) so I want it loose in there. Most likely the RR will not be straight anyway so & if it is I just put a lil bow in it to make it stay in place. Only have to bow 1 out of 20 as it seems that today a straight hickory RR is out of the question.

If you look in your builders book, it should tell you how to ream or drill the hole & the necessary support blocks & etc.

My progress is going pretty good. I had to redo my pipes because I cut them off too short on the lugs, what an idiot. Anyway, the amazing thing was I prepared the pipes in 2 hours which was half the time it took me the first time. I cannot beleive that I was able to get them done so fast. It seems as I get better I become more accurate and faster, hmmmm. ::

I am working on many things on the gun at the same time depending on parts, time, and whether I feel tired.

I had to prepare for a party last week and also work late so my progress was slowed. However, I gotta tell you the brisket and boudin I smoked for the party was so good it would of made you "slap your grandma". I will be eating brisket sandwiches for a month. :D

Now I am back to building and hope to make some progress this weekend.

I would love to have the ML ready for dear season. I can hardly wait for the first SWISH-BOOM!!!!

I think I will order some extra maple RR's. The one I have has a little bend to it...and I would just like a couple extra around anyway.

Just a thought. I don't know what RR pipes & entrypipe yyou have, but if they are cast you may want to see if the RR tip will go thru them as usuallyy you have to ream them out to get the tip thru them. Yes, I know, makes no sense to me either. Ya buy a 3/8" RR pipe & it is no 3/8"......

Thats the first thing I do before I file and sand the pipe. Thanks for the tip. Atleast I know I am thinking right.
