Ramrod tips, for a most secure hold on wood, are they:

Glued?

Pinned?

Glued and pinned?

I glue and pin tips, when I use them. Some of my guns have been sporting a tapered wooden rammer without a way to attach a jag. Customer uses an seperate rod for cleaning, and the "bulb on the end of the rammer just looks right! :imo:

Just once, I did not pin the jag, but only glued it. Boy was that a mistake. Now I glue and pin them for sure! One try and you'll know why! :results:

I make mine from brass rod in the lathe and bore them more deeply than what is commercially available so I can use two pins. I do not glue because the wood is easier to remove if I break the rod.

Sheet metal wrapped and brazed, then tapped for 10-32. Works good pinned and glued on the tapered rods and how they did it on the old guns. Most all of them were set up for the worm like this. Many kept the worm mounted on the rod. That's probably why some had the rods poking out too far.

Never use them. I taper a 7/16" or 1/2" rod to fit. I have a range rod if I need it.

Thanks, I was deleting my post while you were replying. Found TOTW, Possiblestore, MSM and some others.

Appreciate the assistance tho.
