My nephew just sent these photos of a box he recently acquired. I’m thinking it’s one piece of a larger set built for range use perhaps. The top drawer looks made to hold patched round balls and the side brass tube could be to hold a ram rod perhaps. It looks like it has hooks to attach it to another piece. Thoughts?

Looks nice, but what's the board full of dimples for ?

Oh, never mind I figured it out.

It is a nice looking, well made box. But it doesn't suit my taste. For me, a trip to the range or to go hunting, I carry the minimum amount of gear. For the range, I carry a shooting bag, powder horn, range rod and any other gear stuffed into a G.I. ammo can. Hunting, eliminate the ammo can.
I carry a little possibles bag, but have been considering making a replacement this year out of deer hide.

I can’t tell what size the dimples are but I have two boards with 25 holes arranged like that for scoring bench rest targets for USBR and ARA matches. Just a possibility.

Most range boxes are too big for my usage. I take a 30 cal ammo can with my shooting stuff in it. Small, lightweight everything fits except the range rod and water, and of course the gun.

Good looking box but a little to big to be lugging around at the range. Mine is smaller and easier to carry around.

Looking at it closely, I think it’s part of a larger setup. There’s a hanger bracket on one side and a carry handle on the other.
