Range Box

Okay, Claude, I think I have it. I went back and tried the other two Photo Bucket possibilities and I got a picture with the last one. I was frustrated after the first two failures.

Well, everyone, I think I had a "barn find". I was in Michaels Crafts looking for some leather stuff and found these boxes on sale for 50% off (net $15). I thought they had some PC value, although the PC Nazis might beg to differ; but I think they are at least look better than a yellow plastic box with black latches. I put my newly finished Traditions Kentucky Percussion pistol on top for scale comparison. I still need to put a top handle on it and maybe some things to strengthen it, but I thought it was pretty good for the price. Okay, all you PC judges tell me if you think it has possibilities as a range box. Keep in mind that I am a sensitive person.

That's a great find! They were around 35 bucks at Value City furniture, of all places, when I saw them. You may have to beef up the lid and hinges to put a handle on the top. Should make a great range box.

I think it looks great! I saw similar boxes at Hobby Lobby a while back. I was looking at them for ages, just knowing I had some use for them, but for the life of me, I couldn't think of what use. Now I know! Thanks. :haha:

No, these boxes were at Michaels to buy for interior house decoration (you know, put them over by the wall and have everyone ask where you got that antique). They aren't any great structure (nothing on the inside), but you could strengthen them with some inexpensive bracing, put whatever dividing you would want and put a handle on top. I think they are just about the right size for a range box (and they were cheap).

I've been using the exact same box for my BP gear for a couple years now. I primarily use it for storage in my house, and I can tell you it will definately need some reinforcement if you plan to take it to the range.

I plan on building a better box for range use, and will probably retire this one when I do, though I had a leaky bottle of Hoppe's in it, and it smells beautifl when I open the lid. I may have to mistakenly have a leak in whatever I make to replace it :hmm:.
