FYI...this morning I used 50 of the Southern Bloomer .018" pillow ticking patches I posted about week before last...Hoppes No9 PLUS for the lube...they worked perfectly...a great find at a couple bucks a bag for those who prefer precut patches.
Note: Hoppes keeps a bore so clean it's unbelieveable...50 shots, no wiping between shots...look how clean they are...(a few are bottom side up showing the powder scorched center).

Hey roundball - Do you dampen the patches with the Hoppes #9 PLUS and then lettem dry out before using, or do you shoot 'em damp?

Thanks, sse

I dump 100 patches into a ziploc, squirt in some Hoppes, squish them around until everything is wet, then drain the obvious excess out of the bag.

When I get to the range, they're actually still more wet than damp...heck, some were still glistening...but they work great, don't have any affect on the powder, etc

Have you tried them dry at all?
Not me...it's advantageous for the ball's track to be lubed, for the patch to be lubed to prevent fire from burning through, and for a lube to be on the walls that minimizes/softens fouling...a dry patch wouldn't provide those benefits

They are no differant than the .018 ticking you can buy from Track of the Wolf?

They're probably no different from the ticking you can buy at Wal-Mart. I get mine there and it mic's .018.

Seems like plain ole .018" blue & white pillow ticking...I miked them when I got them and the calipers contact flush at .020"-.019", and compress to 018"...worked just like my Oxyoke or TC .018"...at well less than half the cost.

Half the cost!That's pretty good.
I buy mine from Track,By the half a square yard.I did the math once and I think I was getting between 320 to 330 patches out of the half Yard of material.I forget what Tracks price is but it worked out to be pretty cheap. That's one of the things I like about this sport you don't have to be rich to participate. :v

.018" pillow ticking, and Hoppes # 9 Plus, a winning combination!

I have been using the red. Measures .018". I had bought some blue, and it was thicker, about .024". Maybe it was just that batch, as I have seen other poster's say they have used the blue pillow ticking. Both the .018", and .024" measurements were taken after washing two times.

Last time I looked, WalMart had red/white pillow ticking and some blue/white cotton denim. I didn't have anything to measure it, but the denim seemed to be thicker.
Maybe that is what you were measuring when you got the .024 reading?

Zonie :)

I'll bet that is what it is, Blue & white, cotton denim.
