I bought a GPR in 50 about two weeks ago and I am still trying to find a load. Using 70 grs. of black, Hornady .490 ball and a .015 CVA tick patch lubed with "moose milk" I am getting 3 inch groups at 100 yds.

3" group at 100 yards with an open-sights muzzleloader? I'd say she's ready for deer hunting :front: GPRs usually perform well with stouter loads, so you might want to see if she still shoots as accurate with heavier loads, working up to Lyman roundball max loads of 90 grains 3f or 110 2f.

i am having all kinds of problemsshooting accurately i am shooting 2f goex over530 roundball 90 grainsinagreatplains rifle clean every3 or4 shots at 50yards grouping isabout 5 inches help

Have you been able to recover any patches?

Well, there's your problem, powder over the ball. No, I'm just kidding. Try a .535 ball with lubed pillow ticking patch, at least that what works in mine.

Just :m2c: :results:

Try different patch material and lube. I am using "moose Milk" lube, .015 cva pillow tick patch, with a .490 ball. I shot a 25 rd match and the last ball seated as easy as the first with 3f elephant black. I tried the pre-lubed patches and the accuracy was much worse.

I've just finished working up a load from my new GPR. Initially I started off with 70 gr of Goex, Hornady .490 RBs and .015 pre-lubed patches. The patches shredded and groups were nothing to write home about.

I changed patches and the groups tightened but the patches still shredded. As I continued to shoot the groups got tighter and before long the patches quit shredding.

Later I increased the powder load. The groups got tighter still and no patch problems.

And finally I loaded a .495 ball and 90 gr of Goex. It now consistently shoots less than 3" at 100 yards.

The moral of the story. Don't worry about shredded patches and groups. Just shoot the heck out of it. As you do you'll see accuracy improve. As it does you can begin to tweak it.

I say give it between 150 and 200 rounds to settle down.

Cheers!
