The very best pure lead I found was salvaged from the walls of an exray room in a medical building.

We still have a few old buildings here and there roofed with sheet lead. I got the roof from a 12x16 shed my bud was tearing down. Must have been something north of 500# of the purest lead scrap I've ever experienced. I have my eye on a couple of others now, but so far the owners aren't inclined to take them down or reroof.

When you need something to do in the free time of a weekend, visit some flea markets. I found lead ladles, melt pots, ingot molds, ball and maxi molds, handles etc, all at better than reasonable prices.

If you don't mind spending a bit of time; picking out the cast bullets, buckshot and plated bullets will make your ingots closer to dead soft.
Jacketed bullets are filled with pure lead and are a good source. 22 lead is pretty soft as well.

Actually alloys are used in jacketed bullets. Check the maker's spec sheets. In fact one of the few commercial bullets to use pure lead cores is Hawk, a la the old original Barnes.
