I have been trying to contact Rapine to get a .570 round ball bag mold. I have had no luck getting through to them. Does anyone have any information on where to get bag molds? Is there a company out there that makes custom round ball molds?

I just got one from Rapine. I had to call several times to get through and order it. The owner is wanting to retire and sell the company. Nice folks.

You can also go to smiling fox forge. They have brass and steel bag molds avaliable in certain calibers:

Not PC, but this fellow will make any size mold you need. I hear good things about his work:

Good luck!

I bought a Jeff Tanner mold for my 67 caliber smoothbore pistol. The molds work well, but do not have a sprue cutter. I actually found that the lack of a sprue cutter didn't slow me down all that much.

With a Tanner mold, he furnishes the mold, but you need to furnish the Lyman handles.

Well worth the money.

I have a Jeff Tanner mold in .600 and it casts a very nice ball. I use RCBS handles on mine, Lee handles will also work. You have to keep trying to reach Rapine, I got through the first thing in the morning. Now if only my .530 mold would get here in the mail :hmm:

Did you look up his info at the MLF links?

His contact info is:

Rapine Bullet Mould Mfg. Co.,
9503 Landis Lane,
Greenville Pa. 18041
Call: (215) 679-5413
Catalog $2.00

I have called him a few times and I find that his product is well made and as close to period as I see available today aside from the Smiling Fox which is period correct, but does not cast a particularly fine ball.

Jeff Tanner's casts a pretty good ball and is very reasonable in price, but it has no cutter and is far from period correct, so I think that your desire for a bag mold would not be met by Jeff's product.

Dixie will sell you a steel scissor handle type mold and you can clip these to make a period looking mold, but the quality of these is spotty. Some do not meet flush. On the other hand, the one that I have casts a decent enough ball that I still use it.

I would get the Rapine for several reasons, the best of which is that they are correct, they throw a pretty good ball and they may disappear without notice. Get while the getting is good...

Thanks for all the information here. I will keep trying to get through to Rapine for the bag mold. I did get a used.570 lyman mold this weekend. That should get me going for now.

I had also a problem with Rapine Bullet Mould Mfg. Co.Three times i try to call them.Every time i said my name and that i call them from Germany, the next thing i hear is a 'click'. :shocked2: :(
So,no chance to get one of their 0.440 molds.
I like the style with the rounded grip.
