I own a Traditions, Trapper pistol.

Rate of twist is 1:12

What would work best, patched RB, or conical??

I'm getting very acceptable results with patched ball.

You might have to do some range testing since every gun & style of conical bullet will shoot differently, but most people reportedly shoot their .50 Trappers with patched round balls (some out to 100 yards).
At what distance would you like to shoot your Trapper more accurately than with patched balls?
Here's some accurate load information for shooting patched round balls:

My plains pistol (1:30) shoots prb's with good results but I get way better accuracy from Lee REAL's. My Pedersoli .50 Kentucky with 1:18 twist and 12 grooves shoots longer 395 grain conicals with great success.

I have a Ardesa Patriot 45 cal. Same gun as Trapper. 1/16 twist. Shoots super with REALS,great with PRB to.
