I agree on the little green ones. When I was 14-15 I was on a two week work detail in April at Camp Big Island Boy Scout Camp in Rome City, IN (sadly gone now). The last Saturday was a free day after clearing brush and hauling dirt and building docks. A bunch of us decided to go on a snake hunt. Equipped with sticks to pick them up and paper grocery bags (before plastic) off we went on our hunt. We brought back a bag with 15-20 snakes, all around 6-8 inches long, and the counselor dumped them on the ground to sort. A couple were funny looking grey snakes which turned out to be water moccasins, 4-5 little green snakes which were rattlesnakes and a dozen assorted water and garter snakes. When they are little, with no diamonds etc. it's easy to mistake a rattlesnake for a garter snake. It made a believer out of me. Tinderbox

If it is more afraid of me than I am of it, then that little bugger is flat terrified. I will leave snakes alone if they don't get in my way. Spiders, however, are dead at first sight. ::

I used to play with Pacific rattlers all the time. Then, one day in the desert a Mohave Green bit my boot! :shocking: I am mighty glad the guy with me knew how to treat a severe case of shock. :applause: I ain't even lookin' fer the local copperheads, don't want to see 'em. :p Get yore kicks on e-Bay, it's a lot safer. :m2c:

I have some input on this matter, I am from out west, s,ca, and I ride horses and have worked with the park rangers on rides and have spent a lot of time packin out,, I hunted rattle snakes ( not allowed to kill em in ca ya know,, not many rangers really care thou) I make things out of em and eat em,, There is a NEW snake bite kit out called >PACIFIC R.I.D.G.E first aid kit < made for snake bite's . Every one should carry one,, It has a needle like contraption that sucks out the poison, no needle >> NO CUTTIN THE SKIN<< You can cut the skin and hit a vein,, not a smart move,, I have never been bitten, I use a 3 foot stick with a "Y" on the end that I carry in my scabber on my horse,, I use it to hold down it's head and cut it off with my bowie,, I have been bitten by a black widow,, that's a nother story,, anyway, drop for drop the black widow it deadlier,, I BELIEVE IT!!! The rattler is the only snake I'd kill when I was out there,, I'm in Kentucky now , New things to learn,,
