Interesting, so what is a “petunk”?Here's how to get more than you need for about $4.00. Buy a rawhide dog chew. Soak it in water for a few hours, then unroll and then rough cut it and shape it, then let it dry. I have made two rawhide petunks this way with great success. Good luck.
Well dang, another project added to my ever growing list. : ). I started a gourd canteen last night and I have the makings of four benches cut out (of eight I need to build) for the ranges at the club. Summer in Florida means keeping some inside projects as well as outside projects. Now I have to gather materials and make a petunk! I wonder if a fellow happened to have a Kydex press that it would work on the rawhide? Maybe lay towels in the press to soak away the water? Sure would save a lot of clamping.Timber Wolf, a petunk is a hard rawhide small flask shaped container, rather than a soft leather pouch, used to hold lead balls or shot, and sometimes other items. It's easier, I think, to both fill and dispense from the petunk, plus it's nearly 100% waterproof. The one pictured in my #5 post is rather noisy, when the balls rattle around, but I lined the second one with supple leather and it is much quieter. I saw some nice ones selling for $50 and up and decided to try making one. I probably have about $8 in materials in the two I made.
