Does anybody know if you can save a solution of Rit Dye and use it again a month or so down the road? I just dyed the neck of my horn and can't see throwing out the dye solution if it can be re-used.

Thanks.

I have several plastic Clorox jugs of different shades of RIT dye that I have had for several years. I just refreash them with a little RIT and water once a year or so!...Don't throw it away and re-use it!

Rick

I was hoping you'd come along and see my question Horner. The consensus seems to be that it won't go bad at all. Now I've got to dig up a couple of jugs. I hate dumping chemicals like this if they are still usable.

Thanks guys!

It says that it should be hot when you use it, do you reheat the dye or use it cold?

USE HOT ALWAYS!...Just treat the used RIT mixture like it was a brand new batch. Bring to slow rolling boil and turn off heat and then put in your horn for the time you want or the color shade your looking for. This can be from a few minutes to 1 hour. When finished, let cool and put back in storage jug for next time!

what Horner said... use it hot (don't ask how i know- experience is a painful teacher, sometimes  )

you can reuse it only if you are a cheapskate and a confirmed luddite. (i'm on my forth batch and it still works OK)

Thanks for the info. I always that that it was a waste to throw out all that dye after being used just once.

MSW, At least you agree with using RIT hot, but I have never been called a cheapskate or luddite!
I make between thirty to fourty powder horns a year and would rather re-use my RIT, than buy the dye by the case. I think it's called economic's!

I have used Rit w/denatured alcohol for years to dye arrow shafts and most batches are "years" old.Rejuvinate when the alcohol evaporates and it gets kinda muddy.Chris

FRUGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

... so, the English teacher is trying to explain the meaningn of 'frugal,' as in, 'to save.'

OK, Johnnie, use the word 'frugal' in a sentence...

The evil witch kept the beautiful maiden in a tower, but when the knight rode by, she leaned out the window and cried," Frugal me! Oh, please, frugal me!"

guess you had to be there.

Har har.

OK, I admit it. I've been called a luddite before. But it was a loooong time ago.
