Reading machinist's drawings?

I have both digital and "analog" micrometers and calipers. I use both. I use the old standard screw type micrometers just to keep my brain used to doing the adding up fo the line positions.

You probably already know this, and may be of no help, but, to convert fraction to decimal, divide the over by the under. (redneck speak) eg: 1/4" = .250"

Egad, I hate the metric system.

There is nothing "illogical" about standard English measurements.

Metric has it's advantages, all units are divisible by 10 is a major one.

That Napoleon guy...you know...at war with England 1801 to 1815...or close enough....anyway he was on the march to the Channel to look at England and noticed a roadsign that said "Calais 45 miles" or something close to that and he lost his temper and spouted, "MILES??? MILES!!! that's an English way of measurement. Our French scientists are at least as smart as English Scientists. I want a FRENCH measurement and I want it now!!" and guess what they came up with???...the Metric System. Yup!!! it's a complete accident that it works.
