Would a 250 gr .50 cal Lee REAL bullet work in a slow twist rifle - 1:60? Any other conical work well with a slow twist? :hmm:
I know a 1:60 twist is best on round ball, just curious.

The short 250 real should work fine in your slow twist rifle. with conicals in slow twist the shorter the bullet the better. Thats how the buffalo balletts came to be.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a mold available for the ball-ett? If not, what is close?

Musket man posted a pic a while back about how to drill out a standard rd ball mould to make a Ball-ette, but i don't know if he took into consideration the patch needed on the rd ball.

Rebel,
I shoot a patched "ball-ett" in my 73 cal. It just needs a thicker patch for a tighter fit. It works better than I expected.

Maybe you could knurl the sides of the homemade ball-et so it would stay down bore without a patch.
You could also drill out the base a little.
I think it would just be easier to buy some ball-ets.

Or go to the links forum here and look up Black Jack Hill and ask him for some of the REAL's in that weight. I know he makes them in 320g I bought some and they shoot exellent in a 1:48 twist.

I have a mold for the 320 REAL. Never could get that bullet to shoot good out of any rifle.
The .54 REAL's I make in 300 and 380 grain shoot great.
