A good place to go would be www.thehawkenshop.com this is the web site for the Hawken Shop itself. It may be located in Washington State it is the real deal. Great stuff and they are very helpful.

Oh yes I looked allot there too, until I saw their kit prices.

I've just started building Hawken rifles from "kits" and I've completed two from Pecatonica River, a half stock and a full stock. I'm halfway through a full stock flinter, also from Pecatonica. The company was great to work with and the owner, Dick, was willing to take the time and answer any questions I had.
I've just ordered two kits from Don Stith, one full stock and one halfstock. I've researched Hawken rifles extensively and decided to go with Don for my next two. Unfortunately I won't be able to start on them until December... Hope that helps.

I've built a Stith "S. Hawken" half stock and also a Pecatonica half stock. Both were quality "kits" and the Stith looked more authentic but the Pecatonica is more comfortable to shoot because of the flatter buttplate. The customer wanted his rifle to look like some original Hawken photos and the Stith w/ the deeply curved BP certainly looked like the photos. The Pecatonica "Hawken" is my elk rifle and can be shot w/ a normal shoulder mount while the Stith can only be shot w/ an upper arm mount. I think the Pecatonica doesn't quite have that "authentic" Hawken look. The tapered 36" bbl on the Stith contributes to a nicely balanced rifle, whereas the Pecatonica w/ a 32" straight bbl is muzzle heavy....Fred

ayup...he was asking for a REALISTIC Hawkens kit
and you're not going to find one that's a mass produced one for under a grand...but...you buy a Uberti kit that someone finished 20 years ago...take it apart...sand the horrible junk finish off it...of course you'll have to do some major work to the wood around the lock...because your average kitter doesn't fit that worth diddly...remove the blueing off the barrel...skunk spray works really good...toss it all in a box...and...well...whaddya know...instant kit...and it all fits!!!

I wouldn't build any other but one of Don Stith's kits.

I took a look at Don's stuff...looks good...don't forget the price of the lock...still comes out to about a grand...I know that would take me 3 years to save that.

If I'm going to build one for a grand...scratch is the way to go...would only take me 4 years lock, stock, barrel and furniture.
