Rear peep sight?

I don’t think this goes to a muzzleloader I could be wrong but I know it could be part of a black powder cartridge rifle.. Iv just never seen one, can someone help me identify. Sorry if I’m not posting this in the correct section.

It's a beautiful piece of machinery that's in really great condition.

The serrated cylinder/base makes me think it was press fit into a stock with a hole drilled in it.

Threads inside the round base? Doesn't look there are any. And a screw in the bottom would prevent the elevation shaft from moving up and down.

And it's begging to be adapted to another rifle.

Based on its height it would need to be mounted way back on a long tang.

I’m pretty sure it has threads but let me double check. The side screw on the base will loosen it so it can come out, but yes it was done very well whoever did it
