rear sight placement

The rear sight is placed on the muzzle side of the hand when the hand is at the balance point of the horizontally held rifle. The pic shown below is where the rear sight is located w/ a swamped bbl....Fred

Yes. That style of entry pipe has to be made and is a feature of most Bucks County LRs.......Fred
 
That's why I'm building with 48" barrels now instead of 44" ones! As I'm getting older, I know I'll need longer barrels than that.

I can adjust the sights on the barrel, but having to dig a hole to set the butt in for loading every time I want to go out and shoot gets dang tiring.

Finding blanks for longer barrels isn't easy either. The wood under the MC can be spliced and not show, (so there's an inch or so you can fudge with) but behind that it really should be a continuous piece.
