Are there any reasons why a vent liner would be wanted/needed in a thin barreled smoothbore? The breech walls on my Early Rustic Arms smoothy are just about 3/16 inch thick. Would you want to put a liner in to make ignition easier? 3/16 doesn't seem that far for the pan flash to traverse. Any other reason to install the liner? I'd think that they would protrude into the bore if installed flush with the outside of the breech. The barrel would be stronger too with just a flash hole in it. Thanks, GC

If the gun fires okay, I wouldn't mess with it. I know some folks like a vent liner from the get go, and that's cool; however, I don't really see the need for a liner other than as a repair for a burned out vent. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. ::
