Reboring/Re-rifling.

Correct, He bored the Barrels to .400, and cut the Groove Depth (Rifling) .006 Deep, which is a really good depth For Bullets. So if you look at it this way, Take a .412 cutter Centered dead center in a .400 Bore and you push that Through, Your Rifling will remain .400 (Bore Diameter) Groove diameter would be .412

I bored, honed and polished a worn out Hawken 45 barrel too 50 cal to use as shotgun. Worked out good enough it works very well for prb.

On another forum I've asked (no answers) if anyone is going the "sugar loaf" route, loading revolver type bullets in replication of the sugar loaf type bullets that became popular in the first half of the 19th Century. Please do post the results you get with that .40 bore bullet mold.

I just bought a pristine Thompson Renegade 56 cal smoothbore from a member here. It is at Hoyts now getting punched out to 62 cal (20 gauge) as I am going to try and kill a turkey with it. I called him and left a message and it was a couple days later he called me back. He said he was absolutely covered up in work and working lots of hours. His price for reboring my barrel was VERY reasonable. Looking forward to getting it back and working up some loads.

There's a good reason Bobby is busy. I known Bobby Hoyt since camping next to him at Friendship in 1978 when he had a river running through his tent after a couple days of rain. I've only heard good things about his work, including an awesome .32 to .40 re-bore he did for me. Your TC is in good hands.

Just curios, I just sent my 50 to be bored to 54.
Did he give you an ETA ?

I just had a 50 cal renegade barrel bored out to 58. Got the barrel back in 2 weeks. Needless to say I was surprised but happy.

Yes, excellent work. I had my original rifled and sighted .69 Model 1842 barrel made in Springfield, MA re-lined by Mr. Hoyt not long ago. From "wall hanger" with pitted barrel, to functional rifle, externally no difference.

I talked to Mr Hoyt about having the same thing done but forgot to ask what twist he’d do for a 58.
