I just ordered an Andrew Verner Bucks County kit (top two pictures) from Pecatonica. (Rice .54cal. C profile 38" swamped and Chamber's Siler Deluxe lock. However..I want a slight Roman nose type stock and the precarve (two top photos) has a straight comb. I ask Dick at Pecatonica if he thought I could get what I wanted out of his stock...he was hesitant and said he thought so, but there was very little extra wood to play with.
What I want is (see picture..all these stocks are Bucks County) the middle left and bottom right slight curve on the comb..more like the middle left and with the bottom left toe and butt shape.
Does anyone see any problems I might have trying to accomplish this on just my second kit?
Thanks for any input.

Pecatonica Rivers Andrew Figthorn (Reading) has a slight Roman Nose, but I assume you bought the A Verner because it is offered with the swamped barrel.
Just looking at the pictures in Pecatonica Rivers catalog, it looks to me like you could round off the comb of the Verner to get what you want.

You can build whatever you want of course, but I would advise you to get some photos of an original rifle with the stock shape you want to end up with, and refer to them often while removing wood form your stock.
It is real easy to get carried away and go to far without some reference photos to keep things in perspective.
If you don't have access to some photos, at least get Pecatonicas catalog (if you don't already have it) and use those pictures as a guide.

Happy Building.

Birddog...It's back up there now..don't know where it went.

Zonie...I have the Pecatonica cat. ordered and have a few reference pictures on hand and yes the swamped barrel is the reason I went with Andrew Verner Bucks Co. Dick said he would make the stock a little bigger also.
My main concern is having enough stock to get the comb and butt profile I want while still allowing length for a 14" trigger pull. Also finding a butt plate that will work. I think I can get this one.. BUTT PLATE. to work.

Hoyt: Tips Curtis Frontier Shop has that exact precarve stock & patchbox you are wanting. And he is the only one that precarves it. His number is 615-654-4445. To make the Verners into it is not possible, you can get it close but the problem is you cannot get the proper arch under the stock at the wrist & etc. I know this from having a pattern of Both cause I have built both & had the same idea one time when a guy wanted the same Bucks in a LH and there are not precarves as such in a LH. This Bucks is on my web sight if you want to see one finished. I didn't put a patchbox on it as I liked the wood on this rifle so much I was afraid the patchbox would take away from it.
Of all of the Bucks County rifles, I like this particular buttstock the best & also the reason I built it.

Birddog..that Bucks you built is really a fine looking gun..as are all on your site...and it is in line with what I'm trying to put together. However..I have already made a deal with Dick...and he is working with me on some things and don't want to change anything.
His Verner stock Verner has a good bit of contour..looks like more than the finished Verner picture. If I can get just enough Roman nose profile on comb to not be straight and have 13-1/2" to 14" pull and find a butt plate to work that's not too curved and pointed at the toe I'll be happy.
Also want the gun to be real close to 8lbs. if possible.

Unless he leaves you Allot of extra wood, you will not have enough wood for the curves you want. Not enough on the comb, not enough on the toe or cheek piece & the wrist on the smaller Bucks is oval & wider & just the opposide of the Verners. I built this LH verson with a Verners stock & laid the Bucks rifle over it, not even close to the same shape & not enough wood to modify it. So I had the guy come here & showed him & I did some adjustments for him, & used the smaller Bucks buttplate & we went from there. Here is a couple of photos of it rough in the white. And also one closeer of the buttplate after I had it fitted pretty close, so you can see it shape a lil better. The rifle turned out real nice & he likes it & that is all that matters. I took a lil height off the begining of the comb there at the wrist to round the top a lil more & I made the cheekpiece smaller & more refined also.

Some day I am going to build me a Bucks like on my web site, but with a B50 swamped 38" barrel & that will lighten it to about 8# and make it balance it more to my liking.

Good luck !

Is that Verner's stock from TOW? The reason I'm askin is they show 2 Bucks Co. kits..one called Andrew Verner with straight comb and the other Bucks County with a tad of curve in the comb and a similar butt plate as the one you got pictured.
What I kinda had in mind was trying to get at least the comb style as the one pictured in TOW called Bucks County. If I can get just that much and a little less pointed toe I'll be happy.
Dick also mentioned he would have to make the stock bigger for the .54cal. swamped barrel..just hope it works out. I may change my mind..nothing is set in stone except the barrel.

No, it is not from TOW. The stock in the above photos is a blank I sent to Jacks Mountain Stocks. He did the basic butt & wrist shape plus barrel channel inlet & RR hole drilled. No inlets for the buttplate, trigger, lock, RR pipes, forestock was square & not shaped & etc., lock panels not done. He did an Excellent job on it.
