According to my TC owners manual the Hawken .50 with round ball and 50gr. 2f black achieves 1,357 fps at the muzzle with 716 ft. lb.s of energy..you might download til you git in the 6-7oo fps.range.
That would be plenty for Mr coon and IMO would increase the safety factor when shooting up..
my dad usta kill squirrel with rocks during the depression..don't need much speed at short ranges..
