I took my wife to the doctor 65 miles from here. There is a very large sporting goods store there so I stopped in on the way home to see if they had caps and powder. I asked the guy at the front and he said that they had caps but no powder because nobody buys that stuff anymore since they started letting you use a 45-70. They had caps alright, $11.99 a tin! Since I was very low on them I went on and bought 2 tins. It was either that or order some and pay hazmat fees or drive back home then head north 75 miles into the war zone that is Memphis Tn. No more than I get to shoot 200 caps will last a good while.

I got lucky a few years ago, when I went into an old funshop that got new owners who were invested only in plastic unmentionables (the new owners were youngsters) - where I was able to buy most of the FFFg & #11 caps they had for a song ( like $7.99 ea for powder and/or caps).

I'll be set until I go for my Dirt Nap.......... :ghostly:

Make your own powder or make your own caps or both pick your poison the writing is on the wall. Even archery stuff is OOS or BO. This was happening before Covid. I don't believe it's an accident.
Flintlocks are more fun anyway and you can make your own archery equipment as well. A traditional homemade bow is more fun to shoot as well... I just started making my own bows, which is a lot of fun as well.

If you shoot a cap lock, you need caps. Period. Making them is not that simple, and many people just do not have the materials & place to safely make them. If anyone has a simple recipe and way of doing it, I would like to know what it is. I am afraid that Flinters will go the same way. Soon, Flints will continue to go up in price as they already have. Many of us do not live on top of a big rock where we can go get our own flints etc. I do not see it getting better any time soon. Someone Point me in the direction of making my own powder & caps! Thanks!

Yes, we could make bows, but when you are in your 7th decade or more, using one is not that simple. Who is going to pull it back for me? ; )

I have a feeling that not a lot of 'homemade' powder is all that high of a quality, too. Just sayin'

What the clerk said about the 45-70 is very true in my opinion. I noticed an abrupt decrease in traditional BP powder and supplies in local stores starting almost 20 years ago as one state after another around here started including single shot centerfire such as the 45-70 to be used in “primitive” weapons season. That, coupled with the storage restrictions on BP that hit small stores and the in-line craze. I sure took for granted being able to get what I needed in multiple local shops. Long gone now.

I agree. Many States have now changed the rules to allow "straight" walled cases to be used.
