That is not true. I make BP as good as any goex powder. It is not hard to do.

$11.95 a tin makes that 12 cents a cap. Fire twenty shots and it only costs you $2.40 for caps. That is nothing.

I recently bought a bunch of tins at my local Academy at $9.99 each and were being sold mighty quick. I thought it was a great price considering what they are being sold for now. None of the Walmarts in my area had any.

Wasn't singling out any one person, and you may be a pretty expert maker, which is great. But most guys are probably not going to put Goex out of business.

Hadn’t thought about it that way, haven’t bought any modern ammo in a couple of years. I have plenty and don’t really shoot modern anymore. But the few times I’ve glanced at the empty shelves and the price tags your right.

That’s why I reload ammo. The pricing on modern ammo is insane. I can reload 500 rounds of .45 ACP for a small fraction of the store sticker price.

40 miles each way, 80 miles about 4 gal of gas at $3.50 a gallon or $14.00, plus time & effort. Of course you then get to Bass Pro and they do not have any!!!

40 miles there 40 miles back. Depending on your state of residence gas at nearly $7 gallon (as is mine) $15 looks like a break even proposition not counting wear and tear on your vehicle and your time.

Anybody have any experience using musket caps/nipples on traditional sidelock guns? Yeah, I know, musket caps are also rare and expensive these days, but if they will make Triple Seven go bang in my T/C Hawken, I'll give 'em a chance. Waiting for Estes to get Old Eynsford back into production any time soon seems a bit optimistic.

I bought a thousand #11 caps a few months back, paying a hundred bucks for 'em at Sheels. Had to drive fifty miles. NOBODY local had ANY in stock and I was told that none were even available to order wholesale.

I have been making my own BP for quite a while and it works as well as GOEX. If you do it right it is safe and it cost me about $5-$6 per pound. I can tell no difference in accuracy between my BP and any commercial BP I have tried.

Sometimes you get lucky by accident. Last year I ordered several pounds of powder from Graf's for an excellent price; so I'm set for a while. Then a few years ago I ordered 1000 #11 caps. No more than I shoot percussion the caps will last me a looong time. From year to year I shoot flint nearly 100% of the time.

Been using musket caps with T7 for years. Goes bang every time. No problem!

I agree. Many States have now changed the rules to allow "straight" walled cases to be used.

Several years ago, Ohio allowed straight walled rifle cases to be used for deer hunting. We still have a muzzleloading season as well.
