I HAVE A PENNSYLVANIA 50 CAL LOT TRACK OF THIS GUN FOR 15 YEARS OR SO. GOING TO TRY IT AGAIN I THINK 70 GR BLACK 3 FG WAS THE LOAD WITH ROUND BALLS COULD BE 80 WE WILL SEE

SgtMaj, welcome back to the way shooting was meant to be!

That's a pretty respectable target... you're on the right track toward cloverleaf nirvanah ... to squeze the maximum accuracy from the system, check out Dutch Schoultz' method: here's a link ...
http://www.blackpowderrifleaccuracy.com/

Mr. Schoultz is a very nice fellow and if you use his method, your groups will shrink or he'll refund your money. It's the best non- shooting accessory i've ever run across, bar none!

Good luck, and make good smoke ...:)

We have a new member named The Savage reminds me of a conversation I had Friday night with my friend Who wonders why peole would go hunting with muzzleloaders when there are all the semi automatics out there.
He said the is a company Savage Arms who produces a "Muzzleloader" that has blown up and injured 58 people in the last two years
I have neve heard of them. I can't read the too small print on their web site

Would this be an inline rifle company?
I had to explain an inline is a muzzleloader you load from the rear A legal end run around the hunting seasons.

I would really like to know in case I have to defend muzzleloading to someidiot.

Apparently the legal attack on them iss based on faulty steel used and not muzzleloading itself,

They been around awhile. They claim smokeless powder is OK to use in their rifles which are inline.
Wouldn't take one home for free myself. Accident waiting to happen, they load from the muzzle

First off, there are idiot's among us. Imagine double charging one of those rifles. And, some people want to try and duplicate these loads in similar rifles, which simply aren't designed to handle such loads. Lack of knowledge, can kill someone. The people who designed these rifles, have had blown up guns and even known to discuss loads, on social media. Now they've developed even more powerful guns. This is getting ridicules.

I have been shooting and reloading for 40 years and have developed target loads using shotgun and pistol powders for shooting lead bullets out of old surplus military rifles. Not using the correct powder can easily ring a chamber on a military rifle with a hardened barrel and receiver built to withstand high pressures.

There is no way on God's green earth I would use smokeless powder in a muzzle loader. That is an invitation for disaster. Besides, it's fun seeing the smoke.

Hey guys , you have to really pay attention to what your seeing and reading now days.. There is a custom gunsmith on the tube that is pushing his "muzzle loader". It is loaded from the muzzle but it uses smokeless powder and it shoots slightly less than 4000 fps. It is custom hot rodding for sure. What I'm trying to say is really be careful in what you thought you read. Smokeless powder "will" tear your gun in half,a long with your head, period.

I took the Renegade out to the range again today. I fired 5 shot groups with 2 different charge weights. I fired a fouling shot before shooting the groups.

Load # 1 - 70g Pyrodex, CVA lubed patch, T/C .490 round ball and CCI # 11 cap. Group measured 1-5/8" wide x 1" high at 50 meters.

Load # 2 - 40 g Pyrodex, CVA lubed patch, T/C .490 round ball and CCI # 11 cap. Group measured 1-1/4" wide x 1" high at 50 meters. Point of impact was 5-1/4" lower than Load # 1.

I may have canted the rifle on one shot when shooting the group with Load # 1. The other 4 shots are in a nice 1" concentric group. I think 70g of Pyrodex is worth trying SgtMaj.
