At the same time, I know that the atf doesn’t consider a replica antique like this to be a firearm. Anyone can order them via a website with no background checks.

In the eyes of the feds you can own and buy it, however each state has its own laws and some of they would make it illegal. So you will have to find out the laws of the state you live in before going forward.

I don't no for sure in your case but some felonies can be expunged after a certain period of time. If I were you I would inquire?

Call the ATF in your area and the state Troopers and find out. What was the felony? Also different states have different laws. Good luck

Call BATF, you paid your dues decades ago, tell them you want to join a local BP club (find out the name of a local club)...you want to be up front and truthful.

It depends on your state laws, your PO (If you're still on paper, which does not seem likely) and if the court specifically included black powder arms as being prohibited. I would employ an attorney to be on the safe side. Check out the Second Amendment Attorneys on YouTube.

Ask an 2A attorney who is well versed in your state's laws. Just because a cap & ball revolver may not be considered a "firearm" by the feds because it can't shoot cartridge ammo, does not mean it's not a deadly weapon and your state may jam you up for having/carrying one. And many states have laws that regulate muzzleloaders just like regular firearms. Also, the availability of conversion cylinders on the market makes a cap & ball revolver "readily convertible to fire cartridge ammo" in some state's eyes and illegal weather you actually even own a conversion cylinder. Wacky laws in some places. Be careful.
