Hey guys I have a chambers Lancaster I was blessed to be able to build at the chambers building class this past September. I took the advice of Jim and Barbie and used the LMF nut brown and their finish. The finish turned out good especially for my second build. How ever I am a reenactor and that is what the gun is mostly used for and as for historical accuracy I don't think the finish is quite right. I need some advice on how to make it more historical, do I need to refinish, add to the finish in some way or am I wrong and hee to leave it.

I'd leave it alone. A lot of originals were finished with aqua fortis for stain then a home mixed wiping varnish with some pigments applied...madder root...etc. not the easiest undertaking to get right plus won't look much different than what's on there. If you mean historical= aged then still leave it alone as a gun fresh out of a Lancaster builders shop would look new and not aged.

Ok, What's not right? In what direction do you need help?

a thoughtful comment(?)
You've had a great opportunity to have taken the class. All builders have a bit of "second guessing" themselves, even the pro's with presentation grade rifles think; "I could have done this,, or that".
I'm just guessing, but with the pro advise you did get,, I'd Just let it rest awhile,, you'll not just get used to it as it is,, but become quite fond of your build.
