Bought this one with thick varnish on stock and barrel, with heavy lathe marks.

Refreshed with walnut stain, sanded the barrel and applied some cold white vinegar to start the patina process.

Enjoyable and relaxing hobby!

That came out really good. Did you use an alcohol stain and which brand, I would like to redo A CVA stock.

I used Birchwood Casey walnut stain, water based. 3 coats, but sanding in between coats to lighten and highlight areas. I finished with a coat of Howard's feed-n-wax wood preserver.
