I am a new member and like this site alot so far. My real reason for the post was not to find how much Whoompf I can get out of the Seneca but to see why the a bullet 2x heavier than a PRB has the same FFFg charge.
Paul I wasn't discounting your advice about the OP wad but was relating to what I understood about the conicals and with your advice I see why to use the wad now. I am in the Army stationed on Fort Richardson in AK some things BP related are just hard as Heck to get and besides I was originally born and raised in Missouri so sometimes you just have to Show Me before I'll understand things.
Sorry for getting anyones dander up

If you can't get OP wads mailed to you from Track of the Wolf, or other suppliers, then use Corn Meal, Farina, Oatmeal, or some other "filler" between the powder and the base of the bullet.

Newspaper can be punched out with a caliber sized punch, available from Harbor Freight, and Tandy leather, or Dixie Gun Works. If you have the plastic wrapped meat available, they almost always now come in Styrofoam trays, and those trays can produce Hundreds of wad you can use to protect the base of your bullets. [ For a .36 caliber gun, use a .357( or .38 Super, or 9mm Luger) casing as a punch.] Just drill a hole through the primer pocket, to allow a rod, or stick to help you push the wads out of the casing. (You should be able to chuck a .357 casing in any 3/8" hand drill, and use the spinning action to help the brass edge cut the wads from the styrofoam trays.)

You are looking for a wad that will HELP seal the barrel when you shoot conicals. The "filler" will do the rest, protecting the styrofoam wad from melting and burning, and sealing the small cracks that might appear in the grooves around the edges of the bullet's base.

In last desperation, you can always stuff a folded over cleaning patch( used, of course!) into the barrel to act as a base wad, and a gas seal.

I hope that gives you further ideas on how to solve the problems,'er, Cheaply.

Thank you for your service to our Country.

hello, i am in anchorage, and shoot a .36 seneca too. have some conicals but never used them. what are you thinking about shooting that would need them?
well, anyway, once upon a time great northern guns had overpowder lubed wads [ disc like shape ] for .36s and may still or maybe they would have them at sportsmans warehouse?
i have only used the round ball since grouse or rabbits are probably the biggest thing i would shoot with a .36.
do you have a .45 barrel for your seneca?

No Cable I don't have a .45 barrel for it but have another caplock in .45 and one in .50 as well. Small game (grouse, hares and squirrels will get PRB). Medium size game (fox, lynx and yotes) will get conicals if I get them to shoot accurately.
So Cable where do you shoot at? I shoot at birchwood. Getting away from post. But send me a pm maybe we can pick each others brains. Or go shhot the seneca's
