Tans, i got mine from Cabelas and love it. I do not use a loading stand, just hold in left hand and load. I am pretty sure that Cabelas carries the spare cylinder holders. I didn't get any spares for this one though. I use 40 grs of Pyrodex P, an overpowder wad, and a .454 homecast rd ball. It is a darn accurate shooter. I am sure yours will be too. Have fun.

I was just wondering if the Piettas sold through Cabela's are the same quality as new Piettas sold elsewhere. I don't know why, but for some reason I had the impression that the ones sold through Cabelas do not have as good fit and finish.

Here's my newest Cabela's. It's not a 58 tho I do have one of those but it's older. As you can see there's nothing wrong with the finish and fit is nice too.

TAN, I think you will most certainly be impressed with your Remmy. I love mine. I got a Pietta target model via Navy Arms. I was blown away by the quality. I still need to dial it in. It is a beautiful beast. Next I gotta try these Lee conicals I just cast for it.

Glad to hear that, I have heard a lot of good things about the newer Pietta's.

I think Navy Arms, as they are putting their name on the line, demands (as some of the other likewise importers) a bit more quality in their Pietta's specs (same with Uberti) than the standard generic ones through Cabelas. But, with that said, hoping for the best.

I too am looking forward to trying the 200 grain Lee conical, heard good things about them as to ease of loading, accuracy, and considerable more energy on target than a RB, haven't decided yet what lube to start with on them.

Tans I dip the conicals I throw into a hot 50-50 mix of synthetic toilet ring and boot grease using tweezers to hold them. then place onto wax paper. open to suggestions for a faster way to lube but it doesn't take all that long to lube 50 or so. tests I've done on wood show better penetration than RB's.

Thanks for the info Rebel, I am looking forward to getting it, been a while since I played with cap guns.

Did you get extra cylinders with yours? I looked around for leather belt carriers for them, but nada, guess that will be a future project to make some up.

Do you use a loading stand? I was going to make one up, but heck, the one from Traditions was so cheap, why bother.

I saw cylinder pouches in Cabela's when I was in the store a week or two ago...comes as a carrier for two cylinders, available in dark brown leather IF I recall correctly. Either a Tripple-K or a Hunter Co. product I think.

Hope that this helps!

OOOOOPS--I just helped you spend more money on the Dessert! :shocked2:

Thanks, you are right, found them under black powder accessories. They look like single cylinder only. But, as I have some heavy leather, and for that price, was thinking of making up my own.

Then the wife just now took a look and said, "buy two of them, you cheapskate."

Wives, who in the Hades can ever figure them out, (48 years later and still can't) first she gripes about cost, and then calls me low rent. :shocked2: :rotf: :rotf:

Since Civil war reenacting uses BP (dohhh) I get alot of my period correct BP leathers on several "sutler " site. Blockade runner, Falls Creek, Cedar Creek to name just a few. The prices are reasonable and the equipment mostly period correct. You should take a peek at a couple you would be surprised at what you can find.

Will keep that in mind.

PC doesn't matter with this 1858, with the target sights, it isn't neither.
