Remington Pocket

I shot my Remington Pocket model for youtube with no modifications. Does just great with no modifications. The only problem is that the gun shoots extremely high. I use a .319 diameter ball with 10-12 grains of fffg.

I had one of those "book" deringer guns from Cabelas. .44 I shot it with full load of powder and it didnt penetrate the 2/4 but I couldn't find the ball. Lincolns skull was softer than a 2x4?

What is a full load in one of the "book" derringers ? Did you use 3f or 4f ?

All those .40 caliber derringers, whether a close copy of one of Dixie's little brass cuties usually all had the 10 grains of FFFg note hung on them. Not sure what CVA recommended on their larger .44/.45 version.

 

Those little Pedersoli Liegi derringers are screw off barrel guns. Booth used a Henry Deringer derringer. I imagine you can hop up the load in one of those more effectively.

I dont have a clue what the load was, it was as much as I could load though. My son loved it as a novelty so I gave it to him and warned him of the lack of power. I was unpleasantly surpised, should have at least "stuck" in a 2x4! (that was always my test for a bb gun when I was a kid, red ryder types not powerful enough!)

they recomended 30 grains of 3fg

that is a stout load for a .45 derringer

Most I have used in one of them .45 CVA derringers is 20 gr 3Fg and that was more than enough powder.

The CVA at least had the size to get a real grip on. The little copies of the real Deringer or those small bag-gripped cuties the Dixie sold could be a real thrill to hang on to with much powder stuffed up it. Remember these guns were designed to go in a vest pocket and to be fired across a table...basically, touch & BOOM!

I have one of those small .31 swivel barrel derigers I carry as a last shot for civil war reenacting. For a blank load I use about 20 grains, otherwise you might as well carry a cap gun, or just a capped pistol.

try to load 15 gr of 3f 777 in mine ,it filled the chamber . could not seat a ball . i could only put in 12 grains in the cylinder and seat the ball.

I usually run mine at about 10gr 3F 777 and it works great. I've also just filled the cylinders and compressed it (which I usually don't do with 777, but what the heck) and that was fine too.

Mine shoots something like a foot high at 7 yards, which is where I usually shoot it. If I'm working at some longer distance the pocket isn't exactly my go-to choice...
