No on the grade 8. Wanted stainless to be near the same hardness as the plug. That way the located hole for the 5x16-24 threads would carve into the stainless plug if need be ... ( and indeed it did drill through and thread into the stainless plug). Oh and this hole I plugged was not a cleanout hole ... it was the channel hole that went into the factory patent breech hole in the breech plug. Had no cleanout hole to mess with.

Yes all drilling was done with a bench mounted drill press. Bought it for just under 100 dollars at Bi-Mart on sale. Also picked up a drill vise on fleabay for pretty cheap and it held everything nice n tight for all drilling op's.
