Hi, new guy here considering re-entry into black powder. I was an active muzzle loader in the late 60's/early 70's and then drifted away. I have a (possibly) dumb question. The local hock shop has a pretty good looking TC Renegade in the rack and I'd like to buy it. Unfortunately, it has only one trigger. I fondly remember my days with double sets and would like to duplicate that pleasure. Can I buy a double set trigger from TC (or someone else) to fit the Renegade or am I simply better off waiting for a Renegade already so equipped?

Thanks,
Ed

My Renegade has doubble set triggers on it already. I thought they all were like that. I must add I am a total noob at this trad muzzleloader stuff.

Hello 5-shot.
I have 2 TC Renegades and both have double set triggers, the same as the Hawken. I have seen the Renegade with 1 trigger. I don't know if they are interchangeable.

Have fun. Enjoy life.

Hey 5shot I,ve seen replacement trigger sold by TC that were single to replace the double set triggers

The single trigger Renegades were sometimes called the Renegade Hunter. Had one for my first rifle. The trigger bow was a little bigger to allow a gloved finger on the trigger and it didn't have the curly cues behind. I got to wanting a set trigger for target work and ran onto someone with a double and wanting a single. Good trade.

It can be done if your handy.
There are inletting issues. With the single trigger "Hunter" model the trigger and trigger guard are a single unit,,
,With the double trigger the trigger guard is separate and longer requiring some inletting for the rear section of the guard and under the front part of the guard for the longer double trigger plate.
Another issue came about in 1990. They finally realized the design flaw of the tang/wrist area and many cracked wrists. So from 1990 forward the front tang screw is actually a bolt that goes through the stock and into the front of the trigger guard on both the single and double trigger.

So you'll hafta do some disasembly, at least remove the front tang screw to see if it's pre 90 or not, then find the proper guard. You can use a post 90 guard on a pre 90 but not VV
The Davis Deerslayer trigger is a near drop in and an improvement over the factory set triggers but you can usually find factory triggers on auction sites.

Yup
I haven't seen a TC lock without a fly.
Well I take that back, I haven't seen a complete TC lock witout a fly, some times a guy looses the fly or forgets it.

[you can usually find factory triggers on auction sites.]

Just be careful re: auction sites, as some noob may be parting out a T/C Patriot pistol DS trigger, which works exactly the opposite of the T/C rifle DS triggers.

.

Thanks fellows. Unless I can steal the one at the pawn shop (fat chance) it sounds like I'd be better off waiting for one already equipped.

Pull the lock and see if it has a fly to allow use of a set trigger. If so, consider the trigger from R. E. Davis. [redaviscompany.com] Mine went in easily, and is a great improvement over TC trigger. Sets more easily, and feel on release is more consistent.

Good Idea on the value, I have a single and a couple double renegades, the single trigger on mine is great. I sought out a single because I bought a smoothbore barrel and wanted a single trigger to use it like a shotgun.

nice thread. Which of the double sets from redaviscompany.com fit the renegade. I have an old 1" hawken I would like to change the trigger on. thanks

I would pass on it, if a double set rigger is what you really want. Unless you are handy, modifying the single to double will be challenging. Possible but challenging. :hmm:

on the davis trigger because the mainspring screw is in a different locaion ya hafta knock out a little chip of wood for clearance or at least i did on my two. took about ten seconds with a small screwdriver and tack hammer. it's in the directions that come with the trigger. for what it's worth and luck to ya friend, bubba.
