My dad has a T/C Renegade with adjustable sights. The front sight is a big blade with a ball shape on the sight picture itself. What he doesn't like about it is at 50 yard bench shooting the target sticker is covered by the size of the front sight. What I am wondering is if there are replacement primitive fixed sights for it or maybe buckhorn sights. I was also wondering if it is hard to replace sights on a gun. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Luie,
TC sights are attached by 2 screws to the top flat of the barrel. There are several "primitive" type sights made for re-attachment via the original screw holes. TC made a set that consisted of a U shaped rear sight, adjustable for windage only, and a simple blade front which is dovetailed into the original dovetail. There is another one that has been shown that is a little fancier and also fits the screw holes. It may be available from Track of The Wolf, I'm not positive. Either way a simple front blade can be used very effectivley.

TC makes 2 different rear sights, the old style Target (found on many Renegades) on the left, and the Hunting sights with a deep V on the right.

The Deep V is the one that usually has the post/bead front and that is too narrow to fit proper in the Target type rear,,,

There IS an easy replacement blade from Track and several others that is a wider simple "Post" front sight that properly fills the rear slot of the Target stype rear,,much easier for older eyes and for those that want a finer sight aliengment.

It is as cast and needs some minor finish work but it will fit the dove tail, it's a simply matter to drive the front blade out with a brass rod or other such item as a drift on the dove base

The rear sight is held by 1 or 2 screws but you have to drift that front pin out to remove the front ramp/elevation section to get at those screws.

I took a T/C Round Ball barrel and replaced the front sight with a silver blade (this will solve the issue you state at 50 yards) and I had a dovetail cut and replaced the rear sight with a more traditional semi-buckhorn...now I LOVE IT!!

Front blade = $6.00
Dovetail = $20.00
Traditional Rear sight = $25.00

Luie..........Have your dad try to use the top of the sight at 50 yards.........In other words on a 3-4 inch bullseye adjust the sight so he has to hold at the "6 O'clock position and he will be able to hold more precise and shoot smaller groups........As the range increases the balls will be falling down into a "Dead on hold" somewhere this side of 100 yards..........
My New Englander has the same style of sights and I hold in the 6 oclock position on a 8 inch gong at 50 yards and hit the same gong at 100 by holding dead on ........................Bob

I painted my front bead on the renegade instead of getting fiber optic or aftermarket sights I think the last post was a similar reply to what I got last time I posed this question. I have a 70's cva mountain rifle that i need to put together and try those silver front blade and buckhorn sights and If I like them better I will probably get at least a blade front sight for the renegade the problem is that the stock sight is so far elevated off the barrel it would be a challenge to find one of appropriate height. I also found the sights on the green mountain barrels are great the small brass bead is easy to see and shoot with.

Here is a bought front sight.

Here is a stock TC sight that has been filed to remove the bead. No cost!

Here is a full buckhorn. It requires you to have a dovetail installed.

Here is a stock primitive sight from TC. No longer made but you can find them and it fits the existing screw holes.

Your dad may benefit from a sight plate that has a dovetail cut into the plate and the plate mounts in the existing holes for the factory sight. This will also allow for moving the sight further up the barrel. Which helps older eyes. Also an Ivory fron sight would help focusing on the blade. Since photo bucket won't work for me (again ) if you send me a pm with your email I could send you pictures of what I am refering to.
