Howdy all,
As you all know there is much debate aver smooth bore accuracy and jug choking.
After Coyote Joe Jug choked my smooth bore I shot it with a PRB and got decent 25 yrd accuracy but dismal 50 yrd six inch groups.
I had a smooth bore competition this spring so I asked Mike brooks what I could do to wring out more accuracy.
The thing I came away with is to get rid of the overpowder wad and seat my PRB directly on top of my load which I did and got great 25 yrd accuracy.
I competed in the MT saunter this spring at Happy Canyon and hit every target using a PRB.
I put my smooth bore away for further R&D this winter, well come to find out we have a smooth bore comp this coming weekend at Como.
So I took said smoothbore out to my summer range to get it a little more point of aim( it was shooting 4" high at 25 yrds).
After I adjusted my sites I was only 1.5" at 25 yrds, I figured sence I was benching it (across the hood of my truck) I might as well shoot it at 50 yrds to see what kind of group I could get, expecting minute of deer I was very surprised at the results.
I am shooting a TVM American fowler 42 inch Long Hammock barrel.
62 cal with a .600 RB .018 pillow ticking using a wet lube one part Murphy oil, one part Ballistol. seven part water, with 60 grns of ffg Goex.
I had Coyote Joe put in a full jug choke that patterned 84 percent at 40 yrds because I am first and formost a tukey hunter with my smooth bore.
The thing I noticed that created accuracy as well as losing the overpowder wad is decreasing my powder charge to 60 grns and using a all lead ball.
