Bucket list item is done.

Flintlock is officially retired. Fork horn taken at 25 yds +/-. Round ball and 70gr of black powder. He was facing me and the ball entered upper chest where meets neck.
Destroyed wind pipe, left lung, liver, stomach, exited in front of left hind quarter.

This was rifle is legit. 46" hand made barrel, flintlock. Caliber is just over .45. No maker stamped or engraved anywhere on the rifle. Many of the parts are hand made. A regular guy rifle.

We believe it's origins go back to the 1700's. I have wanted to take 1 deer and I have. Now the rifle goes on the wall for the rest of it's existance.

congratulations, and I would hang his horns above or below the rifle as well.

Good shooting.

As far as the rifle, you have to wonder how many times since the 1700s it has been retired to ‘the wall for the rest of it’s existence’ and then brought out of retirement to make smoke again? While still in it’s prime see no reason for an early retirement.

thanks for sharing, great way to retire an old gun

Good job, nc12215! That's a handsome buck and a clean kill.

I really like that rifle, and would appreciate seeing more pictures. It appears to be in remarkably good condition for its age. It has nice lines... Much more appealing to me than the fancier guns.

A few more.

Cool! I have an old antique gun that’s been in the family a long time. I get the retirement part of it. I like hawk78’s idea too. However sometimes the temptation to shoot these old guns is just too much. That’s what they were made to do.
