Hey Guys
Ok here is the scoop. My re-enacting group (Queen's Rangers) are getting older as we speak. We do the light company... You got it run, then run some more... ok run a lot more... :rotf: so question does anyone make a good replica of a rev.war cannon? Maybe a 3lb grass hopper?
Thanks Loyalistdawg :hatsoff:

Go to member resources and click on muzzleloading links and scroll down to canon links. There's enough there to keep you busy for some time.

OK Thank s guys
Gee I must be lost or something worse... I couldn't find a grass hopper...
any more iders...
my best regards just a loyalist Dawg :hatsoff:

You might check out the 3lb Vebruggen at http://www.cannon-mania.com/ArsenalStore.htm

They also have wheels if you want to build one of the British pattern. There are several books on the British grasshopper. I haven't seen much on the light artillery of French or other continental European design.

Thanks Loyalistdawg

You guys get tired running around with nine pound Bess' and you want to get a 600 pound Grasshopper to push around at the double time? :youcrazy: :rotf:

What do you mean by bad reputation? I've bought several replicas and a winchester cannon(currently in the mail)from them. Been buying for years and never had a problem. What was your experience with them? I've had to wait for certain things to be manufactured, and they're usually over loaded with work and never answer their phone, but besides that is there something I don't know about them? :shocked2:

It is my understanding that 3 pounders were cast to both the Light Infantry and Colonel Pattison's patterns. Both guns were brass and 36" long. The Verbruggens cast both patterns at Woolwich. South Bend Replicas has an iron 'Verbruggen' 3 pounder. I do not know which pattern is used for their gun but either should work for a Grasshopper or Butterfly. In 1979 Adrian Caruana wrote a nice booklet entitled "Grasshoppers and Butterflies" which has been reprinted by the Museum Restoration Service. Hopefully others will know of additional sources.

Hello Fellas
Yes we are still looking for a grass hopper any iders where we can find one? Well my best regards just a loyalist Dawg :hatsoff:

A 100% correct Grasshopper with a bronze tube ready to trailer home will be very pricey. Did you talk to the fellows at South Bend Replicas? Their iron 3 pounder tube could be painted with a bronze paint & you could make the carriage. You will need the services of a good blacksmith and could possibly use Amish made wagon (not buggy) wheels to hold costs down - as with the tube, correct custom wheels will be very costly. If you decide to go forward with building & want the custom wheels, Mrs Coot (a long time horse driving type) can find you a wheelwright.
